The University of Georgia's Complex Carbohydrate Research Center (www.ccrc.uga.edu) is looking for a motivated postdoctoral researcher to join a US Department of Energy-funded project using experimental and computational approaches to elucidate the molecular features of rhamnogalacturonan II (RG-II) involved in its self assembly into a borate cross-linked dimer (www.ccrc.uga.edu/~mao/rg2/intro.htm). The research will involve 1- and 2D-NMR spectroscopic and mass spectrometric analyses of RG-II glycoform variants to identify structural features of RG-II that control dimer self assembly. The qualified applicant would join a multi-disciplinary team comprised of researchers from the Complex Carbohydrate Research Center in Athens, GA and the National Renewable Energy laboratory (NREL) in Golden, CO.
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in chemistry, biochemistry, biophysics or a related discipline. A background in biomolecular NMR is preferred. Preference will be given to candidates who also have hands-on experience with structural analyses of complex glycans and heterologous expression and purification of recombinant proteins. Strong communication skills and fluency in written and spoken English are essential as is the ability to work in a collaborative scientific environment. The position is for a period of 1 year with the option for extension.
The Complex Carbohydrate Research Center has outstanding resources for high-field NMR spectroscopy, including 900 MHz, 800 MHz, three 600 MHz and a 500 MHz spectrometers. The center is also equipped with state-of-the-art ESI and MALDI mass spectrometers, HPLC and GC-MS instruments.
