The Department of Surgery at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) is currently seeking applications for a faculty position at the level of Instructor, Staff Scientist I. The successful candidate for this position will be considered for a Harvard Medical School appointment at the rank of Instructor, commensurate with experience, training and achievement in the field. Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree, a track record of research excellence, and participation in obtaining extramural grants. Ability to write independently, supervise post-doctoral trainees, and work well in scientific teams both as a leader and as a participant are required skills. Applicants will also have the demonstrable ability to communicate verbally complex concepts in English and clearly disseminate scientific ideas.
Applicants should have a primary interest in glycobiology/glycosciences and have additional expertise in one of the following fields: immunology, glycoproteomics, or carbohydrate synthesis/chemistry. Completion of four to six years of post-doctoral training or equivalent industrial experience is strongly preferred. Eligible applicants are highly encouraged to apply.
Opportunities to collaborate with scientists and clinicians whose areas of expertise extend from fundamental molecular mechanisms to clinical and translational research in multiple fields of study will be available.
This Instructor position will involve teaching and mentorship of postdoctoral research fellows, visiting graduate students and rotation students. In addition, the successful candidate will give regular research and teaching presentations to groups of researchers including trainees and faculty.
